Blog Journal #3

Copyright essentially means that someone is an owner of a piece. You cannot copy or re-disperse it without permission or proper crediting, depending on the media format. Fair use is something that was published that can be used, copied, or modified by anyone. These both vary, as there are different types of copyrights and fair uses that only allow certain usages or crediting in order for the access. It is important to understand the usage types of media before using them. My general rule of thumb is to always credit and paraphrase.

Two technology implementation issues are academic dishonesty and student privacy. Firstly, academic dishonesty is much easier with technology, as having open notes, Google at your fingertips, and improper monitoring can all make academic dishonesty extremely easy. There are many ways, however, for teachers to combat this. Using resources like Canvas (which tracks clicks, time on questions, clicking out of the tab, ext.) or a lockdown browser (camera monitoring, only allowing certain websites, ext.) or just simply using technology with teacher monitoring will make students have academic honesty. As well, student privacy is a big issue because many students' information can be sold and abused by companies. To combat this, teachers should be diligent on seeing what websites they use. Reading the Terms of Service, using student emails and accounts to separate private and school accounts, and only using school approved websites are all important to protect student privacy.

The new skills I developed inside of the Newsletter assignment include image wrapping, columns, and Word literacy. Firstly, I learned how to take text boxes and images and put them in front of text and how to freeform move them around the document. Next, I learned how to create columns and how they make the document look much more fluid and readable. Finally, I learned the basics of Microsoft Word and how to navigate the program as a whole, as I didn't understand it as much when I first started using it here.
